Our Focus
African American Family Connection is focused foremost on strengthening the African American family through web of interdependence that holds individuals together. Family values are reflected in the way we live and the quality of our communities. The family unit is the most important factor in building a foundation for life and extends beyond blood relations.
African Americans have been subjected to oppression and exclusion socially and economically. Healing individually from the “cultural confusion” we have suffered as displaced people with no identity is the goal of this publication.
AAFC will serve as a gateway of communication and information examining black family values as the guiding principles within our environment. The way our family functions as a unit shapes our frame of reference to life in general and greatly influences our understanding about who we are. Our relationships within our family is influenced by the mind-set of society to the extent that the family unit has almost become an endangered species.
The urgent need of addressing a constantly shifting paradigm is the reason for creating and publishing this magazine. Popular culture creates a a constant changing world view within and of the African American family and causes a disconnect in family ties. In order to re-connect it is necessary to collectively acknowledge and honor the historical contributions of African Americans.
Our ancestors and leaders by the example of their lives have taught us to step forward boldly and take our rightful place as contributors to the foundation of society in our communities, nationally and globally representing a creative force with the family unit as the source of inspiration.
African American Family Connection offers fresh perspective and original content of inspiring stories that matter relating to family values and the socio-environmental issues that challenge the quality of life for African Americans individually, and as a family.
We are dedicated to uplifting and celebrating the family as the core of our survival that provides for;
- Safety and well being within family and community
- Energy to influence each other to feel empowered
- Possibility to manifest positive outcomes
The AAFC Magazine creates a channel to foster and encourage a profound appreciation for the influence and presence of African Americans.
Our articles and features will focus on the contributions of African Americans deflating the stereotypes and labels perpetuated by society.
Kitchen Table Wisdom is the tone and voice of understanding the complexities of our family relationships through kinship and devotion to raising healthy children. Family values and family connection is the thread of survival for African Americans. Giving honor the contributions of our ancestors using technology as a means of communication that reaches a greater number of individuals will serve to make a difference in how society and the world views us as an ethic group.
